We’re constantly in awe of the beauty talent on YouTube– from the absolute artistry to the abundance of skincare knowledge which helps us fight everything from pesky breakouts to dark circles. We can easily lose ourselves for hours watching tutorials we’ll never do and makeup declutter videos that have a weird way of making us want to buy even more. YouTube just wouldn’t be YouTube without the beauty community.
2016 has seen some incredible stuff come from the beauty and lifestyle community including 17 year old James Charles becoming the first male ambassador for CoverGirl cosmetics and Sam and Nic from Pixiwoo releasing their amazing Face book and Hollywood Icons DVD.
However, one thing we’re not very thankful for this year are all the weird AF beauty trends. And trust us, there’s been a lot. So here we’re listing 9 beauty trends that took over YouTube and need to be stopped. Like, right now.
Don’t get us wrong, we’re all about doing what makes you feel good and if your favourite look is featured on here then ignore us and keep on werking it. There have been some beauty trends we’ve loved this year that have drawn controversy- rainbow highlighter and fake freckles for one- which is proof that individuality makes the world go round (aww).
100 Layers Challenge
This wasn’t a challenge, this was a recipe for clogged pores and damaged nails. Onions and cakes are the only things which should have 100 layers. And maybe trifles.
If you’ve got anything green growing on your nails, you need to see a doctor. Stat. But for some reason, someone made a decision to take that whole rose gold/cactus vibe even further and stick mini versions on their nails. We won’t even ask what happens when they poo.
First off- this is down right rude. What would you grandma say, eh? Secondly, its just plain ugly. Everyone knows male anatomy isn’t the prettiest thing in the world. Nor should it really be that close to your eyeball. Urgh.
Sure, they can be a snack but we’d rather not eat chocolate with a side of the-dirt-and-dust-that-lives-under-our-nails.
Penis Inspired Contouring
Were we just all obsessed this year? Stick to contouring the old fashioned way (e.g; applying too much blus, blending for ages and cursing your entire existence)
Cheeto Hair Curling
We’re looking at you, Grav3yardGirl! Cheesy, crusty hair does not belong in 2017.
Our ears are perfectly fine, Kylie Jenner. We do not need our eyes contoured. Ever.
Full Face Using Only…
From kids makeup to highlighters, liquid lipstick to food. We’re not saying this trend didn’t produce some amazing looks but it feels like a diss to every other makeup product out there. Don’t worry, mascara, we love you!
Keep an eye out for some of 2017’s up and coming beauty trends you’ll be seeing EVERYWHERE soon.
