Here’s whether they’re worth the hype or not…

We can blame YouTube for a lot of things, especially the fact we’re constantly broke AF because they practically force us to buy the beauty products they suggest or the items they’ve used in their latest tutorials. If the beauty side of YouTube is essentially your life, you know you’re constantly inundated with favourites videos, tutorials, routine videos and more and it can soon mean you’re spending more money in lipstick, make-up brushes and brow pencils than your bank account will allow.

Nars makeup

Of course, if you’re a beauty or fashion YouTuber than you get sent rather a lot of products for free. If you’re at the top of your game a la Zoella, Fleur de Force and Shaanxo, the biggest brands in the world will happily cram your post box full of hundreds of pounds worth of gifts every single day. But why is this the case?

Brands send YouTubers products for free in the hope they’ll feature them in a video, on their blog or even in a three second Snapchat clip. When a well known YouTuber gives a product their seal of approval, hundreds of people flock to buy their recommendation so for the company, sending £500 worth of lipsticks to a vlogger is completely worth it if 500 viewers then out out a buy one. Make sense?

But how do you know what to trust? How do you know your favourite YouTuber isn’t just raving about that face mask on Snapchat because she’s been paid? And with so much choice, how do you know what products are actually worth the hype?
