When two attractive Irish YouTubers talk about sex, we’re going to get a little hot and bothered. But once we’ve put that aside, we learnt some seriously amazing things from Melanie Murphy‘s latest colab with Riyadh K and it had us wishing we’d seen it when we were still in school.
Addressing the fact that sex education is lacking in schools (“Here’s a vagina, here’s a penis, in, out, there you go”) Melanie and Riyadh chat openly and honestly about their own experiences and share their thoughts on everything from revenge porn to body confidence and what it’s like being in a gay, lesbian and straight sexual relationship.
Here’s 5 reasons why it’s not to be missed.
As the pair – rightly- point out, sex education in schools doesn’t cover a lot of things so the majority of us learn things from porn… And in an age where everything is at the click of a button, this is happening more than ever. But is it a good thing? Melanie makes the important point that, whilst watching porn and learning about sex from porn is perfectly healthy, you can become desensitised thanks to seeing everything picture perfect on screen. It makes us wonder, why are most schools not addressing porn and how it effects young minds both in a positive and negative way?
When chatting about losing their virginity, Riyadh and Melanie move onto the often murky issue of consent and the importance of it. Communication is absolutely key but often people can find themselves into situations where they’re being pressured. With a stern look, Melanie explains the importance of saying no and why you should someone if you’re being pressured into sex. Top work, guys.
“The more you talk about [sex], the less guilt you feel. As a young gay boy living here in Ireland, I felt like my sexuality was bad, it was wrong and I was sick and I shouldn’t be doing it. In the past 3 or 4 years, I’ve closed that book and realised my sexuality is a beautiful thing”
Another issue we haven’t seen addressed a lot is the issue of body confidence when it comes to sex. LearningToBeFealress covered the topic recently when she spoke about plus-size intimacy but we’ve seen little else. When talking about the topic, Melanie advises: “Work on loving and accepting yourself and it really does make sex so much better.” Great advice if we ever heard it…
OK, despite the fact we’re all supposed to be mature enough, this video is guaranteed hilarity. Riyadh and Melanie frequently burst out laughing at “naughty” words and we can’t help but giggle along too, which is what makes this video such a joy.
Brilliantly edited and produced, hilarious and informative and – best of all- approachable despite the sometimes awkward topic.
