It’s basically a well known fact now that YouTuber’s aren’t very nice to our bank balance – be it via merch, tours or a particularly expensive edition of recommendation videos. One of the top ways vloggers can get an income from their channel is by working with brands and introducing products to their viewers thanks to adverts or sponsored content. We’ve all fallen victim to making purchases we don’t really need after seeing a YouTuber rave about it. So when we go exploring shops from Superdrug to Space.NK, it’s now become pretty rare to not overhear other customers picking items up and discussing which YouTubers use it.
We took to Twitter to ask you what YouTuber influenced beauty products you have purchased, including some of our own beauty bits we’ve picked up here at WTU HQ after seeing our fave beauty vloggers rave about it.
ZOEVA Rose Gold Brush Set
After seeing Zoella absolutely loving these brushes, the rose gold set went straight on to our wishlist. FreddyMyLove has also mentioned that it was her most recent brush set, and you can actually always see Zoeva brushes displayed in the background of her videos. But a big shout out to BeccaRose for mentioning this pug printed duvet cover set from Primark.
Too Faced Bon Bons Palette and Cover Girl Nude Palette
Vloggers have the ability to create a cult status for certain makeup products. A waiting list was even created for new releases of the Urban Decay Naked Palettes, as pretty much every single beauty YouTuber owned one. The Too Faced Bon Bons palette looks like it could be heading in the same direction. Ingrid Nilsen has always been a big fan of Covergirl and made so many of us lust after their makeup items, including Charley.
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
Print designer Alex often looks to beauty vloggers when pay day comes around. An absolute classic is the Smashbox photofinish products. Ingrid Nilsen has been championing this product since she first started her channel under the name Miss Glamorazzi where she would often discuss the perils of having oily skin.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders
Our reader Kimi isn’t the only one to purchase this product after seeing so many YouTubers declare their love for it, including Tanya Burr. Our editor Hollie is also a huge fan of Hourglass, so great choice Kimi!
Chanel Aqua Foundation
A firm favourite of Fleur De Force and ViviannaDoesMakeup is the Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation, which has become a staple in many YouTube addicts makeup bags. When thinking about making a high end make up purchase, going through a range of different YouTubers videos is a must – especially if you watch the disappointing products videos to get as much information about the products before you take the plunge.
Lush hauls are incredibly popular on YouTube due to their products being fun, affordable, natural and accessible. Not just shown in various hauls, routine videos and every edition of Monthly Favourites you can think of, Lush products also feature in vlogs from both Zoe Sugg, Louise Pentland and Tanya Burr, making people like us and Shann obsessed with their products.
As viewers we no longer just buy or lust after products that our favourite YouTubers use, we now buy products that they have actually created themselves. Undoubtedly the most popular range is by Zoella and #TeamInternet have given her their full support. Zoella Product UnBoxing edition videos have been all over YouTube the past few weeks following the release of her newest Sweet Inspirations colelction, which is only making us want to buy everything. Don’t worry, you are not alone Bethy.
Have you ever bought a beauty item after seeing a YouTuber use it in a tutorial or include it in a monthly favourites video? Let us know in the comments. Also, if you want to catch up on the latest YouTuber news and gossip, you should watch our weekly edition to the SLAY or NAY series. We round-up basically every single story you need to know about before next Tuesday when we release the next episode!
