Over the past few years we’ve seen a lot of big lifestyle YouTubers speak out about crippling anxiety; Zoella even become an ambassador for mental health charity MIND. Whilst we’re fully in support of YouTubers speaking out about anxiety disorders, it’s almost so well covered as an issue that others get left aside.

Stress and anxiety can be quite similar and some of the initial symptoms of anxiety are actually down to stress or vice versa. From shallow breathing, feeling tense and an inability to stay calm, stress and anxiety are initially very similar. So when YouTuber Niomi Smart uploaded a video over the weekend which detailed ways to de-stress, it really made us sit up and listen.

Niomi has become our go-to for seriously great health and beauty advice thanks, in part, to the fact she clearly practises what she preaches.

The introduction to the video reminds us why we first fell in love with Niomi and that’s her approachable nature. Niomi opens up about what works for her and how she’s dealt with stressful situations in the past.

It acknowledges stress as an actual thing…

Stress is often brushed off because it’s often temporary. How many times have you said “I’m so stressed!” because the wifi went down, when actually you meant you were annoyed. Niomi’s video speaks about stress as an actual serious problem that we all experience throughout our lives and the advice she gives can actually change how you deal with problems for life. The advice is on point…

From breathing techniques which she helpfully illustrates to encouraging you to get outside and workout. Niomi has clearly researched and practised her ways of coping. Niomi’s knowledge for all things health and well-being shines through in this video and she offers advice which you’d probably ignore if your 50-something, balding doctor gave it to you. Listen to the advice she gives. Check out the section of Spotify she recommends and get your trainers on for a power walk at lunchtime. You’ll not regret it.
