It’s the end of the week again! Time for yet another round-up of YouTube’s best uploads from every genre this week.
We’ve got poetry on body image, DIY tutorials for a Disney Christmas, and the return of PSY – so settle in, scroll on, and enjoy!
Ashley Mardell – “Learning To Be Ugly”
Everybody deals with their body image issues in different ways. Some take drastic measures to correct them, some post banging selfies to own them – and some, write amazing and intense 8-minute poems about them. We’ve written before about how much Ashley Mardell breaks the mold of YouTube, but we guarantee this is unlike any other body image video you’ve seen.
DJ Earworm – “United State Of Pop 2015”
You know the year is drawing to a close when DJ Earworm returns to the viral frontline with another epic mashup. And this year’s offering of all the biggest hits in pop smushed together is so intense, so emotive, so full of Taylor Swift, that it already has over 1.5 million views after being online for just a day. ENJOY.
Music (Pt. 2)
PSY – “DADDY (ft. CL of 2NE1)”
There was another musical upload this week that we straight-up couldn’t let slide without another honourable mention. PSY is back, and just as weird as ever. Just hit Play, you know you want to…
Leigh Lahav/How It Should Have Ended – “Five Stages Of Watching A Young-Adult Movie”
“Young Adult” fiction is one of the most exciting book genres out there, but it’s also very formulaic; which is why so many of its stories get movie adaptations. And watching these movies as an adult always makes you fall into the same traps; defending yourself, picking between two Hot White Men, and a bunch of other clichés that animator Leigh Lahav highlights in this video made for the HISHE gang.
Nick Offerman’s ‘Yule Log’
Okay, not strictly “food” so much as “drink” – but we couldn’t not include this. Actor and man’s man Nick Offerman sits in a comfy armchair in front of a log fire, drinking his Parks & Rec counterpart Ron Swanson’s favourite scotch (Lagavulin) for a solid 45 minutes. It’s very, very relaxing and you need it in your life.
Kristina Horner – “Writing A Novel In 30 Days”
Every November is National Novel Writing Month, where thousands of budding authors accept the challenge of writing a 50,000 novel in just 30 days. If you aren’t already familiar with NaNoWriMo or Kristina Horner, you might not know that this is her tenth year of completing the challenge – and once again, she vlogged every day of the process to show you just how hard it can be.
Zoella – “November Favourites”
Guess who’s kicking off her “24 Days Of Zoella” this month? Welp, no prizes for that one. We’ve got a whole bunch of Zoe to watch between now and Christmas, and she has kicked off her own advent calendar with a classic monthly favourites video. But it’s all worth it for Nala’s little Mrs. Claus outfit. FESTIVE PUGS!
CollegeHumor: “Why People Think Video Games Are Just For Boys”
How weird is it that, despite women being one of the largest consumer demographics of video games, that some people a) still think it’s a “for boys” thing, and b) get really sh*tty about that? CollegeHumor breaks down the uncomfortable* truth behind the history of women and video games in a fun little animation.
*Only “uncomfortable” if you’re one of those people from a) and b).
Mr. Weebl – “Fat Santa Claus”
WEEBL. ADVENT. CALENDAR. We are truly blessed this joyous season. The animation legend is posting a new short festive video every day until Christmas – starting with this excellent festive rework of the hilarious “Fat Labrador”. Fat animated dog dressed as Santa? Important web content.
LDShadowLady – “8 Super Easy D.I.Y Disney Christmas Decorations!”
Feel like making this Christmas a little more magical? Can’t actually afford any of the cute decorations from the Disney Store? Lizzie’s got you covered. Check out some of the cute af Disney-inspired baubles she creates, and find out how to make your own!
JackSepticEye – “HUMAN CATAPULT | Just Cause 3”
Everyone’s getting hyped about Just Cause 3 this week, and while others might want to play the game a little more seriously, Jack’s found something better to do; add rocket bombs to the backsides of cows and launch them into space. This is our kind of game…
