In what is a momentous victory for the internet community, nugget lovers and – most of all, Wendy’s social media team – Twitter hero Carter Wilkerson has been granted a year’s supply of chicken nuggets after a viral campaign. Carter sent a tweet to American fast food chain Wendy’s back in April, asking them how many retweets it would take for him to be given a year’s supply of free chicken nuggets. Their reply? A very reasonable 18 million retweets. It was at this point, wager securely in hand, that Carter took his cause to the wider Twitter community:
Did Nugget Guy Get His Wendy’s Chicken Nuggets?
Despite not reaching the goal of 18 million retweets, Wendy’s have agreed to give Carter the nuggets anyway – because Wendy’s recognise a good PR opportunity when they see it. They granted him his wish for nuggets and donated 100K to the The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, which is a foundation ‘dedicated to finding homes for children in foster care.’ Look at Carter’s happy lil face:
Did the Nuggets Guy 18 million RTs?
Absolutely not, but it’s worth remembering that the famous Ellen Oscar selfie – and that has only managed to amass 3.4 million retweets, and is the most retweeted tweet of all time:
Oh wait, sorry – did we say it’s the most retweeted tweet of all time? What we meant to say is that it used to be the most retweeted tweet of all time – UNTIL OUR BOY CARTER CAME THRU. Yes, that’s right, Carter didn’t just get a bunch of retweets, he got the most retweets in the history of Twitter. Which just goes to show that if there is something, anything, that can unite people in this fractured world, it’s our shared love of nugs.
