We’re all gathered here today to read about another YouTuber entering the already over-populated world of ‘YouTubers Turned Authors‘, but we’re stoked to announce that the newest addition to your bookcase is surprisingly fresh and innovative! The real kicker is that it came from Caspar Lee – and his mother. You read that correctly.
Last night, at 7pm GMT sharp, Caspar Lee uploaded the ‘announcement’ video he’s been teasing for so long to a hungry and ravaging audience. In a hilariously produced and scripted segment, Caspar attempts to hide his new project from world, as it’s an autobiography written entirely by his mother which he pleads consists “98% of lies”. The book in question is imaginatively called ‘Caspar Lee‘ and will be released on the 31st of March, but for a limited amount of time you can preorder signed copies from specific retailers.
In fact, Caspar fans were so eager for his book that within 30 seconds of the video being published, the Waterstones website had crashed due to traffic overload. Go #TeamInternet!
As Caspar describes it, the book was “written by my mum but finished by me” essentially meaning that Mama Lee wrote all of the autobiographical parts of Caspar Lee’s life from birth to YouTube sensation (as, come on, she really is his number one fan) whilst Caspar scribbled, highlighted and doodled over the top. It’s a clever spin on a YouTube book that had the potential to draw out a long, bored groan from fans if the book was a carbon-copy of the same book format we’ve come to expect from other creators in the past.
“In seriousness, it’s been so interesting to hear about all the things my family went through when we were living in South Africa but that I wasn’t aware of because I was too young. Thanks so much to my mum for capturing my life story so far and to everyone who has gotten me to this point”, gushed Caspar about the book. Caspar Lee is available in the US as well as Germany, France, Singapore, Thailand and many more so don’t worry about your increasing FOMO – Caspar has you covered!
Caspar will also be heading out on a book tour but the locations and dates are yet to be announced. We’ll keep you updated – but where would you like him to travel to? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Twitter, @wetheunicorns!
