A rising vlogger and college footballer has lost his scholarship; because of content posted to his YouTube channel. Donald De La Haye has been creating videos on his channel “Deestroying” for the past year; but his monetised videos discussing football have deemed him “ineligible” for his scholarship by the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
In a video explaining the situation, Donald describes his situation as “absolutely unbelievable”.
“Something that I’ve put blood, sweat and tears into… Something I eat, sleep and breath about… and I get deemed ineligible to play college sports because of it.”
Donald’s videos, many of which highlight his life as a college athlete, have been deemed as a violation of NCAA regulations; as amateur athletes are supposedly not allowed to profit off their own “likeness”.
The NCAA reportedly offered Donald the compromise of keeping his scholarship, as long as he did not monetise any videos related to football; a condition that he ultimately refused.
“They proposed some rules and conditions that they wanted me to follow,” admits Donald. “And I refused to, I didn’t feel like they were fair.”

But Donald hasn’t been completely discouraged.
While he lacks the necessary funding to continue with his degree, Donald plans to give it “110%” in continuing with his education; setting up a GoFundMe for anyone sympathetic to his situation. But it also appears a few doors are opening for him in the YouTube world; as plenty of influential creators are stepping up to share in his story.
Whatever comes next for him, we wish Donald the best of luck!
