David Dobrik has slammed Donald Trump’s latest immigration reforms after revealing that he could be deported as a result of them.
On September 5th, President Trump announced that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programme would be terminated. DACA, which has been in place since 2012, allows minors who arrive in the US without legal documentation to remain and work in the country. As of 2017, DACA allowed more than 800,000 undocumented migrants who arrived in the US as children to stay in the country. While DACA provides allows it’s users – who are known as Dreamers – to stay in the US, it comes with conditions including having to apply to renew permits every two years, and not being eligible to receive state-assisted healthcare.

As a Dreamer, Slovakian-born David Dobrik’s status in the US is now in question, thanks to Trump killing off DACA.
On 5th September David tweeted, “I paid $400,000 in taxes last year and all I got was a free trip back to Slovakia,” alongside the hashtag #DefendDACA. Revealing that Trump’s decision on the programme has affected his ability to travel, he added that he would no longer be able to attend VidCon in Australia. Dreamers have been advised not to travel out of the country during this time.
David’s girlfriend and fellow YouTuber Liza Koshy tweeted in support of him: “Don’t take DACA away from my DADA,” she wrote.
David Dobrik isn’t the only YouTuber affected.
LA-based lifestyle vlogger Daisy Marquez revealed that she was also a Dreamer. “My heart aches for all of us affected,” she wrote.
