It’s the battle of the SVOD’s – but who will win?!

If you’ve already eagerly watched and repeated all the TV shows and movies on the innovative YouTube Red platform, then we have some seriously good news for you. Announced yesterday, the “global youth media company” Fullscreen will be releasing their brand new ad-free subscription service globally on the 26th of April… with over 800 hours of brand new content.

Set to be the “first video membership experience programmed for the social-first generation”, the SVOD (Subscription Video On Demand) service features not only scripted and unscripted content from YouTube megastars like Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart and Shane Dawson, but will also launch with classic teen staples such as Cruel Intentions, Saved By The Bell and Dawson’s Creek. In fact the subscription service, branded ‘fullscreen‘ with the lower case ‘f’, promises “exclusive content from top creators and social influencers” from their talent library of over 75,000 people. Goodbye social life!

Even though the service officially debuts in a month’s time, it already has some tough competition from other SVOD’s. However, what it 100% beats them all at is price, with its ad-free service costing only $4.99 per month in comparison to Netflix and Hulu’s $7.99 and YouTube Red‘s $9.99. As well as being slated for a global release, the platform will be available on iPhone, iPad, select Android phones and Google’s ChromeCast device. Still not convinced you want to shell out a fiver every month for the service? Don’t worry, there’s a 30-day free trial as well to lure you in.

Fullscreen‘s founder and CEO George Strompolos spoke more about fullscreen in a statement; “This is for an audience that we know and love. A generation of young people that grew up with online video and social media”. In order to attract their 13-30 demographic, the SVOD boasts a massive number of additional features that are certain to excite even the most basic tech user; new content will be added daily, video playlists will be curated by all your favourite creators, users can search the SVOD according to their mood AND there will be a unique social media creation tool to help users annotate and share clips from their favourite shows and movies. Some of the shows available on launch day have already been announced with the standout feature being the 70s TV show reboot of Sid and Marty Krofft’s Electra Woman & Dyna Girl, starring Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart. On fullscreen you’ll also be able to Shane Dawson‘s talk show Shane & Friends, a workplace comedy from Jack Howard and Dean Dobbs called Jack And Dean Of All Trades plus an exciting series from Alexis G. Zall where she interviews and meets interesting people called Zall Good.
