When Hamila Aden didn’t see anyone who represented her in her local beauty pageant, she made a decision to change it and enter herself. But not one to stick to the rules, Hamila took a step forward and entered the competition complete with hijab and burkini.
“It means a lot to me not only to represent Somali women in this competition but Muslim women” Hamila said. A refugee who moved to Minisota in America when she was only six years old, Hamila speaks out in this moving video about bridging the gap between cultures whilst staying true to herself.
We couldn’t be more proud of Hamila for empowering women across the globe with her message, especially at a time of so much political unrest across the globe.
