Instagram have recently been rolling out a lot of awesome new updates and changes to its iconic photo-sharing platform, but its newest feature is eerily similar to one we all know and love. After Insta admitted that its ‘Stories’ function was essentially a clone of Snapchat, they’ve now decided to move into the live streaming market with their new ‘Instagram Live’ update – so watch out YouTube!
After it was teased by the CEO of Instagram last week, it looks like their upcoming Live Streaming feature will be hitting apps sooner than we expected with everyone getting the function once it “rolls out globally” in the near future. However, if you think it’s going to be anything like the YouTube, Twitch, Periscope or Facebook Live adventures you’re used to watching on demand then think again, because Instagram Live has a huge amount of FOMO coming with it.
Once a friend of yours goes Live, you’ll be able to see their profile icon glowing across the top of your homepage. BUT, once that Live Stream has ended… that’s it. The video will disappear into all eternity and will never ever be seen again. Basically, this new update spells the end of our social life, as instead we’ll choose to stay on a secure WiFi connection and wait to see if anyone broadcasts something unmissable!
A new section of the Explore tab will be opening up as well so users can hunt down popular Live videos happening all around the world, essentially turning Instagram into a constantly alive but forgettable social media child. We’ll give you an update when Instagram has rolled out their new feature, but in the meantime, you may wanna start planning out how to get more comfortable on camera. We can guarantee Instagram is about to come the next YouTube…
