Wednesday the 22nd of March will be remembered as an emotional and scary day for people in Britain, as news broke of a series of attacks in London. Emergency services did their best to nurse injured people following a horrifying series of events that saw five people murdered and over 40 people injured; but one YouTuber chose to post the most tasteless tweet we’ve ever seen, believing it was a sign of respect.
JackJonesTV decided to contribute to yesterday’s moment of mourning; by sharing not just a statement of gratitude towards the brave public services “for dealing with the situation”, but also a selfie of himself. The selfie, which in absolutely no context can be argued as suitable to the tweet, was uploaded along with the trending tag #PrayForLondon – a space the rest of the Internet was using to share thoughts, sympathy, and information.
We can’t determine how long the tweet was up for before it was deleted; However, based on other screengrabs and replies to tweets he has posted since, his fans and the general public were not pleased with his input. People have called him out for trying to do damage control and tweet out “appropriate” messages of support, whilst others are asking why new messages aren’t supplied with the selfie.
With the atmosphere currently happening in both London and the Twittersphere, it’s a shame people have used this opportunity to enhance their social media reach. This kind of “virtue signalling” is common when terror attacks happen around the world, but by far this is one of the worst cases of insensitivity we’ve seen from a YouTuber yet.
