It seems as if Jeffree Star and Manny MUA are never far from trouble and controversy. Not content with dividing the YouTube community and making headlines due to their previous racist remarks, the duo are now being sued by a cosmetics company who claim they stole their logo.
Jeffree Star has a sell out cosmetics line featuring everything from liquid lipsticks to rainbow highlighters and Manny has also teamed up with MakeUp Geek Cosmetics; so it only makes sense for the pair to put their heads together and come out with their own line of products. The highly anticipated #JSCManny collaboration is set to feature bold lipsticks and stunning highlight shades but it seems that Jeffree and Manny have come under fire by a company called Black Moon Cosmetics for apparently “ripping off” their design.
According to Black Moon Cosmetics, Jeffree Star and Manny MUA copied their packaging design.
Black Moon Cosmetics claim they are “”the first cosmetic company to use packaging incorporating a mark consisting of holographic crescent moon on a black background to distribute cosmetic products”. But to add insult to injury, Black Moon Cosmetics also provided a direct message between the brand and Manny MUA where he reportedly states he “loves [their] packaging” ; it’s because of this that Black Moon Cosmetics feel their design has been copied.
But what do you think? Here’s an image of the two brands’ packaging side by side. Is it a copy? Or just a popular style of design?
Luckily for the MUA duo, it seems Black Moon Cosmetics quickly dropped their law suit and the range is set to be released, as planned, on April 8th. Speaking to Cosmopolitan, Jefree and Manny released a joint statement saying : “The issue has been resolved. The Jeffree Star Cosmetics x Manny MUA collaboration will launch as planned on April 8th. We are so grateful for the continued support of our fans and are excited to share this moment with them.”
