Are you super creative? Are you a film maker? Are you looking for something to do to fill all those empty, bored days of your life? Well then we have amazing news for you because the incredible director behind Star Trek: Beyond and Fast & Furious wants to make your dreams come true. Yes, Justin Lin just relaunched his Asian-American Short Film Contest and YOU could be a winner!
The Interpretations Initiative is sponsored by both ComCast and NBCUniversal, and challenges it’s competitors to “create three-minute shorts based on the same four line scripts”. The lines must be delivered in the exact order they’re written, but the genre, setting and tone are all entirely up to you. The competition was last held in 2010, but we’re happy to announce that brand new 2016 edition will open from March 31st – so get your entries in! Check out the trailer below.
Entries for the competition will close on June 17th, but the official four-lines of dialogue will be released this Thursday (today?!) from Tony-award winning playwright David Henry Hwang. 15 finalists will be picked once the entrants are in and after that online voters will get the chance to choose their favourites from September 6th to October 6th. The final three winners will have their work presented at the NBCUniversal Short Film Festival on October 19th.
Justin Lin released this statement about the contest;“The first Interpretations Initiative was such as success that I am very excited to be launching it again with a stronger fortitude to make this an opportunity to incubate potential careers for budding filmmakers. Interpretations 2016 is a part of the bigger pictures of YOMTOMF (You-Offend-Me-You-Offend-My-Family.com), where we want to establish and nurture an Asian American creative community of content creators and enthusiasts where we can see what projects we can develop with emerging talent”.
Below is one of the sponsored 2010 samples to kick start your creativity, starring Community’s Danny Pudi. The applications site will go live tomorrow once the Interpretations Initiative will have been kickstarted, but for more information check out YOMYOFM’s official post.
