00’s kids everywhere had a major moment of nostalgia this week, when MTV announced plans to bring back “Total Request Live” (or TRL). The request show previously ran from 1998-2008, and will be getting the 2017 reboot treatment from October. But the most exciting part of all is the show’s choice in co-hosts; specifically, one of our favourites, rising YouTube star Liza Koshy.
Liza Koshy has reportedly signed an overall first-look production deal with MTV.
BroadwayWorld reports that Liza will be developing and producing original content for MTV; similar to previous vlogger-led projects such as Franchesca Ramsey’s ‘Decoded’ or Laci Green’s ‘Braless’. But she has also been touted to co-host the revival of the much-loved ‘TRL’ along with fellow digital influencer Amy Pham.
On rotation, these hosts will present music videos, interview celebrity guests and interact with the live audience; but more widely, social media is expected to come into play much more than it did in the show’s first iteration.
Liza has yet to disclose any of this news herself; but we can’t wait to see her in action when ‘TRL’ returns to MTV on October 2nd!
