Like it or not, the name “PewDiePie” has truly come to mean something in the video game industry. The character can single-handedly make or break your video game in just one five minute playthrough on his YouTube channel, now watched by nearly 55 million people. This level of power has just been acknowledged by GamesIndustry.biz – and Felix has now been named one of the “most influential people working in the British games industry”.
The list, which features 100 men and women working in the games industry across sectors such as eSports, publishing and PR, places Felix alongside fellow creator Mark Turpin (YogsCast) in addition to many famous journalists and developers. Whilst the company does address Felix and his recent controversies, they also seem to admit that it’s difficult to think of the British games industry without his blonde, Swedish head shouting back at you.
Here’s the brief paragraph Felix had dedicated to describe why he’s so influential:
In recent months, Felix has received a surge of new subscribers (and haters) following the aftermath of his run-in with The Wall Street Journal. After many creators got behind him and stood their ground, it’s certainly nice to see large media companies looking at Felix as a positive impact on games culture, and not an Anti-Semite.
Let us know in the comments below if you would have liked to see any other creators on the list, or whether you feel Felix was a bad fit amongst other influential figures in the gaming industry.
