Police Called As Dolan Twins’ London Meet-Up Goes HORRIBLY Wrong
13 November 2017, 11:11
How have online stars not learned?
The Dolan Twins, two incredibly popular YouTubers with over 4.5 million subscribers were in London for the MTV EMA's. For some reason they decided that it would be a good idea to tell their fans to meet them in a public park in London... on Remembrance Day... when there happened to be a memorial service in that very park. You can guess what happened next.
It started with some tweets
As all mistakes do.
LONDON! MEET UP AT HYDE PARK TOMORROW AT 12:30 PM! I wanna see you there!!— Grayson Dolan (@GraysonDolan) November 11, 2017
If you are going to the meet up today PLEASE stay calm. I want this to work so we can all have a good time! If Ethan and I can’t take a picture with every person individually we at least want to see you all. But stay calm! No pushing others please. Spread the word ♥️— Grayson Dolan (@GraysonDolan) November 12, 2017
Fans started turning up in their droves
Then things took a turn for the worse
You see, the 11th of November is a date known as 'Remembrance Day' in the UK. It is the day when soldiers lost in battle are remembered and has been celebrated annually since the First World War. It is a serious and solemn occasion that people take extremely seriously. In London's Hyde Park, there was a memorial service happening, to remember the war dead.
The Dolans unknowingly summoned a screaming crowd of fans to this service.
Guys I had no idea there was a memorial in Hyde park today for remembrance day. It’s more important to pay respect than anything right now. I feel horrible.— Grayson Dolan (@GraysonDolan) November 12, 2017
Ethan and I are really sorry. We can’t go to Hyde park but we’re trying to figure something out. We want to see you guys but we don’t want to be disrespectful and most of all we want everyone to be safe.— Grayson Dolan (@GraysonDolan) November 12, 2017
We really want to meet you all but i would feel so awful and selfish if someone were to get hurt. Everyone’s safety is most important— Ethan Dolan (@EthanDolan) November 12, 2017
It’s also important to show respect today on Remembrance Day.We’re sorry we can’t do the meet up. London we love you.We will make it up to u— Ethan Dolan (@EthanDolan) November 12, 2017
Although the Dolan Twins clearly didn't do this on purpose, this is a good reminder that Google exists and is free to use. Maybe if you're heading somewhere in a strange city, you give it like, a two second Google before you go? Just a thought.
But fans... didn't leave. And then things got worse
I was at Hyde park someone literally knocked me over and people just kept running on me - bruised and my leg is swollen— dolantwins_help (@dolanT_saveher) November 12, 2017
Then the police arrived...
Shockingly, the police were a little on-edge about loud public gatherings near remembrance services.
Wow now the police is there. They’re gonna ask people what they’re doing and people are gonna say “waiting for Dolan twins” and now the twins might possibly have to deal with these fans that can’t wrapt their head around the fact that they’re being disrespectful.— ᴊ (@eetthhaann8) November 12, 2017
But it wasn't all bad
On a good side I watched the memorial service and I felt so good it was amazing 💜— Stephanie (@Dolantwins44evr) November 12, 2017
Why does this keep happening?
This is definitely not the first time that a spontaneous public meet-up has ended in disaster. YouTubers need to realise that their audiences are massive and unorganised meet-ups always tend to end up in a kind of dangerous stampede.
