The internet is so big these days, that creators can just miss each other and their work completely. But all it takes is one dishonest person for some serious plagiarism to unintentionally arise; which is something one unlucky rapper learned today.
Rap artist Legacy has been forced to apologise for his latest album’s artwork; as it’s a blatant rip-off of Troye Sivan’s “Blue Neighbourhood”.
The artwork for “Boy Meets World”, created by an unnamed artist that Legacy paid, was simply the rapper’s head photoshopped over Troye’s, and a different title – even using a similar font.
After fans bombarded Legacy’s Twitter, he pulled the album from iTunes.
“I meant no disrespect or did it just to do it,” he assured fans. “The guy I paid to make it sent it to me and I liked it.”
“I’m working alone, no team and the artist I paid said the artwork wouldn’t get copyrighted.”
Legacy has since revealed the new cover of “Boy Meets World”.
The new artwork takes a more simplistic approach with the classic baby photo theme.
Not many creators own up to mistakes as easily as this artist was; so we have to credit Legacy for fixing things as soon as he was made aware. We just hope next time he pays someone to create artwork, he gets to work with someone with some originality.
