It’s 2016 and people on the Internet are far more woke than they used to be. Even though Shane Dawson has been adored and supported by his fans for a decade for his rude and “offensive” take on comedy, it seems like he went a step too far in a brand new video. Whilst “trying girl products”, Shane makes a joke about Beyonce’s child looking like a 48-year-old man, even though Blue Ivy is a 4-year-old girl.
The video, which we’ve shared below, contains the following joke; “Actually, [the face mask] is not the size of a child. This is the size of an adult. Wait, do kids have adult faces? I mean, I’ve seen some babies that have some adult ass faces. Beyonce’s kid? He looks like he’s 48 and works at a bank. Like, ‘no thank you Ivy, I’m good. I don’t need the savings account”. As you can imagine, the Internet went crazy and the trend #ShaneDawsonIsOverParty popped up in no time.
The trend, which made it up to the second most popular hashtag on Twitter last night, featured both hardcore Shane and Beyonce fans trying to defend their idols over what is essentially such a trivial matter in the grand scheme of things. Beyhive defenders came for Shane’s career, saying that his time on YouTube was “over” by spreading his alleged home address and home number. But on the opposite side, Dawson defenders were pointing out that Shane’s humour has always been this way.
Since the fallout, Shane has tweeted and deleted his thoughts on the matter; “I love Beyonce. Obviously. She’s f*cking Beyonce. Anyone that can’t take a joke needs to stay off my timeline. I didn’t even know Blue Ivy was a girl cause I’m so out of the loop. So obviously my joke wasn’t to be taken seriously. But I’m still sorry”. What do you think about this joke – was it innocent, uninformed fun or still a joke at the expense of a 4-year-old? Let us know in the comments below.
