YouTube’s Original Daily Vlogger Is Taking A Year Off To 'Maintain A Normal Life'

We can't believe it.
Whilst most of us were washing our hair and watching Netflix over the weekend, SHAYTARDS fans were recovering from some pretty huge news. Yesterday (or Sunday 2nd October, if you must know) marked the eighth anniversary of the SHAYARDS vlogging channel and a few days earlier, on Wednesday 28th September, the family brought us the shocking news that Shay will be taking a year long break from daily vlogging.
The sad announcement came from a twenty minute long video on their channel, entitled "CHANGE! (a mostly un-edited raw conversation)", where Shay explained that he just "needs to take a year off of the Internet...in an effort to try to maintain a "normal" life". He told the camera that "(he) wants to know what it's like not to be a YouTuber", and that he's taking this break to allow him to have a "normal" family life.
The channel's almost 5 million subscribers have watched Shay, and his wife Colette Butler, grow together and raise all of their five children in what Shay estimates to be over 4,446 videos over eight years.
However, this shocking announcement won't be coming into effect right away as the couple have decided to wait until Shay's 37th birthday on 5th March 2017 to begin their 12 month break. So until then we have been promised five months of solid daily vlogging over on the SHAYTARDS channel, which Shay has said will compete with the likes of the daily vlogging kings, Casey Neistat and Roman Atwood.
Even though Shay will be staying away from the Internet completely, Colette hopes to still be uploading videos to her 'The Moms View' channel, so we can still have a piece of the original vlogging family during the 12-month hiatus.
