YouNow is a fantastic website, used by creators and fans alike to hang out live on camera and chat with other people. But if you’ve ever been curious as to what would happen if a Saudi teenager started flirting with an American vlogger in front of thousands of people, well today is your lucky day because the consequences of these exact events have just been made public.
So, for context; Abu Sin is a 19-year-old Saudi teenager with a huge following online for flirting in broken English and having a “toothless” smile (that’s where the nickname Abu Sin comes from). Christina Crockett is a 21-year-old American vlogger who specialises in challenge and unboxing style videos, who would regularly chat to Abu on YouNow. In the video below, you can watch one of their first conversations in which Abu smokes a cigarette and asks Christina to marry him:
These videos gained the pair a lot of exposure and attention, but they didn’t amuse Saudi authorities who have accused Abu of “unethical behaviour” which, if convicted, could mean he risks up to three years in jail for breaking Sharia law. Whilst the arrest and charges against Abu Sin are shocking just by themselves, the story becomes even crazier when you find out his whole arrest was caught live on YouNow.
The broadcast was uploaded to YouTube, so if you watch the video below from 6 minutes and 52 seconds, you can see a police vehicle pull up behind Abu’s car. Fast forward to 10″47 and his friend returns to the live stream to say that “[Abu’s] going to take a while. There’s an arrest warrant against him”.
No further news has been said of Abu’s arrest, aside from the Police publishing a report that stands firmly on the decision that his actions were “unethical”.
