This story will melt your ice cold heart.
Our favourite things in the whole wide world are stories of love, romance and people being straight up amazing to each other. So when we found out that two YouTubers that have been through so much difficulty were planning on settling down and having children, we were over the moon. If you've never heard of transgender teen Jamie Raines and his girlfriend Shaaba Lotun, then pretend to have your life changed.
You may recognise the video below as the 2014 viral sensation that took the Internet by storm. It showed the transition of one individual going through the process of female-to-male gender realignment. The person in front of the camera is 21-year-old Jamie Raines, and since the success of his video, he's found more than he could ever hoped for in his childhood best-friend, Shaaba Lotun.
The childhood best friends met when they were both females, at school and only 16-years-old. Since coming out as transgender to Shaaba at the age of 17, her religious family forbid her from seeing Jamie in person or contacting him via social media. However it quickly became apparent that the two teens had feelings for each other and a relationship soon formed.
Ever since, Jamie and Shaaba have been a massive success on social media following their decision to document not just Jamie's transition but their whole relationship on YouTube in order to challenge people's perceptions of transgender couples. Jamie says that, “documenting my transition as well as mine and Shaaba’s relationship has been rewarding on so many levels. It’s brilliant to be able to see how far we have come and also to know that by talking about our relationship, we have helped others in a similar situation".
Some of their most popular videos consist of Jamie and Shaaba doing Q&A;'s and talking about sensitive transgender topics that other people may fear to ask or answer. Below is their most viewed Tag video.
Following all the love and support the couple have received in the past few years, they've recently announced that they plan to settle down, get married and have children one day. In regards to fertility options, Shaaba is "always keeping an eye on the latest scientific advances but [she] would love to adopt too”. We can't wait to see what the future holds for such a pure and innocent couple!
