“Creating this series has enriched my little gay soul”

Tyler Oakley is producing a brand new LGBTQ+ series featuring a veritable feast of queer YouTube talent.

Since the start of his YouTube career in 2007, Tyler Oakley has been a vocal advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. His latest offering, called “Chosen Family: Stories Of Queer Resilience,” celebrates the community’s history, achievements and diversity. The eight-parter also spotlights stories from fellow LGBTQ+ YouTubers; including Kingsley, Hannah Hart, Kyle Krieger, Kat Blaque and Dylan Marron. Plus, Tyler will be selling limited edition merch throughout the show’s run to raise money for LGBTQ+ non-profit organisations.

Basically, “Chosen Family” is going to be queer AF.

“I have spent so much time and travelled round to make this video series happen; and I could not be happier with what you are about to see all June long,” Tyler reveals in the series’ trailer. “‘Chosen Family’ is all about celebrating queer life, amplifying disenfranchised voices within the LGBT+ community, and sharing our history while fighting for our future.

“And not only are we making videos that are super important to me to share with the world; but we’re also selling limited edition t-shirts each and every week, that are related to the themes of that week’s videos, that benefit organisations that help the world in some way.

“Creating this series has enriched my little gay soul, and I could not be happier with what I’m about to share with you all.”

The announcement was met with a lot of love on Twitter.

The “Chosen Family” trailer sees Tyler visiting important LGBTQ+ landmarks and people

In a particularly poignant moment, Tyler brings flowers Pulse Nightclub, a gay club where 49 people were murdered in an anti-queer terrorist attack last June. The trailer also features activists, performers, drag queens, and a huge, diverse range of LGBTQ+ people.

“Chosen Family: Stories Of Queer Resilience” will be hosted on Tyler’s YouTube channel. The first episode is set to air next week.
