It’s that time of year, folks. The nominees for the 2016 Shorty Awards have been unleashed. For those of you who are unfamiliar, the Shorty Awards are one of the best awards in terms of rewarding members of Team Internet – so much so that ‘Team Internet’ is a sub-category in its own right. We have also shown you the nominees for the YouTuber awards, but here are are their six-second compadres:
Vine Comedian Of The Year
The voting is left entirely up to the public, so who knows which way it could go but judging by current popularity I would peg MeechOnMars as favourite to take home the gold. That being said, my heart lies with Gabriel Gundacker, who I incidentally recently named the best comedian on Vine.
Best Musician On Vine
There’s a lot of beautiful music in this category so it’s really hard to tell what way it will go:
From a biased perspective, Marks Records is a standout, mainly due to this ultra chill and endlessly replayable little creation he produced:
Vine Artist Of The Year
I don’t know anything about art, but I’ll tell you what: Zach King, aka ‘The Final Cut King’ is a damn popular. We’d be surprised if he didn’t take home the gold here:
That said, there’s an art shop’s worth of beautiful creations here, so hopefully people will have a look over everyone and picking their favourite, instead of just rushing to vote for their known fave.
Here’s A Weird One – The Weird Category Itself
This is a really odd category, not because it’s focused on ‘weird’ content but because of the wide and random range of creators in it. It spans from twitter comedians to … a writer on Parks And Recreation? There are a couple of viners in the bunch though, which we have highlighted for your convenience. You’re welcome:
If push came to shove, we’d vote for Cole Hersch, because he made it into our list of favourite viners. Because we are biased.
The Big One
Hooooooooboy. If you thought those other categories were hotly contested just wait until you get a load of this nonsense right here. Chrish, Melberger, Chewning – the list of incredible talent just goes on and on:
If we had to choose, we’d maybe put the fantastic Chrish as crowd-favourite to win, and seeing as the voting is crowdsourced, that would mean he would also just win. That said, Chris Melberger, man. He’s the man on Vine right now. If anyone should take it home, it’s gotta be that dude.
