Does The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon have anybody else on the show that isn’t a YouTuber anymore?! It feels like his sofa has been absolutely dominated by social media stars in 2016 with the likes of Lilly Singh, Troye Sivan and now Tyler Oakley all lining up to appear on the famous chat show and prove that they’re out-of-this-world amazing. If you missed out on Tyler’s guest spot then don’t worry, we have all the gossip here for you – including his brief fangirling moment over an encounter with Lady Gaga.
Right from the off, Jimmy gives Tyler the opening monologue of a lifetime by highlighting how truly influential he is online; “The YouTube channel Tyler Oakley has over 8 million subscribers, and 550 million views. That’s big buddy. Your first book, Binge, was on the New York Times Best-Seller list. You went on a sold out world tour. You made a documentary about it that I loved called Snervous“. The duo then go on to chat about young children aspiring to be YouTubers in a shocking career choice that neither Tyler nor Jimmy could have ever dreamt about when they were kids.
Tyler then goes on to discuss how he started YouTube just to talk to his friends back home after moving away to Michigan State University to study. He would talk to his camera and give them dorm tours, and eventually the videos started getting more and more views – “I still get excited for 50 views!”. But then came the main event, when we heard more about when Tyler managed to meet his idol, Lady Gaga, at The Oscars After-Party.
Apparently, after going up to Lady Gaga and finally finding the courage to introduce himself, the jet-setting, banger-singing, American Horror Story slaying Queen of pop culture already knew who he was because she’s seen him on billboards. We can’t speak on behalf of Tyler, but having your absolute favourite person on the planet know who you are because she’s seen your face plastered all over Global billboards has to be one of the most insane feelings in the world! As Tyler says so himself, “my Queen knows who I am!”.
Tyler and Jimmy finish up the TV spot by talking about his time on The Amazing Race and how he didn’t care to ask for directions from random locals during the competition, all he wanted to know was if people had heard the new Adele album and if it was any good – priorities, Tyler! We then get to witness Tyler and Jimmy create the most “horrifying” Snapchat possible before closing up the segment.
After finally calming down our excitable little hearts, we couldn’t have been happier for Tyler making it all the way to The Tonight Show and we cannot wait to see what 2016 has in store for him.
