So there’s Live video on mobile. There’s the “Community” tab. There’s featuring “on the rise” creators. Yes, it seems as though YouTube are finally taking huge steps to join the social media world. But there’s just one thing missing: Instant messaging. YouTube’s mail system is total junk, and they need an easier way to share videos onsite.
But luckily, the answer is here… if you live in Canada.
YouTube are currently trialling a built-in messaging system, that allows you to privately share videos, links and text with your friends; so it’s possible your group chat is about to become a lot more video-y.
At the moment it’s only being tested in the Great White North; because according to Google’s product manager Shimrit Ben Yair, Canadians share videos more than anyone else in the world.

Cool, right? We can’t wait to test it and see if we can slide into our favourite YouTuber’s DMs (because they all stopped us on Twitter). Also, if you happen to have a pal in Canada and want a taster of the new feature, just ask them to add you to a conversation. Sneaky!
