Great news! Top YouTubers have been chosen by The Guardian as among the 100 people who have been most influential in media this year. This places them on the same list as Mark Zuckerberg, Rupert Murdoch and almost everyone major media CEO.
Let’s dive right in:
Dan Middleton aka. The Diamond Minecart #95
Dan has had absolutely amazing 2015 – and that success has not gone unnoticed. He has shot into the top 100 – an achievement that has not been managed by many of the YouTubers that you would expect (where are Dan and Phil?). He may be at 95 this year but we would not be surprised at all if he was near the top 50 – or even top 10 – by this time next year.
PewDiePie – #31
PewDiePie is the highest placing YouTuber, at 31. As you can see, this puts him two places than the head of Youtube itself! Go Team Internet!
It’s fantastic to see that traditional media is starting to recognise that YouTubers are hugely influential! It may seem surprising at first to see someone like PewDiePie on the same list as the CEO of Google, but when you consider the sheer size of his following, it makes a lot of sense. In fact, we recently wrote an article about how PewDiePie has more subscribers than most countries have people.
