Zoella has faced backlash this week after she shared a tweet in support of Tanya Burr’s new makeup range featuring a gif of disgraced American actor Bill Cosby, who is facing a number of allegations of sexual assault.
On Tuesday, Zoella tweeted “Excuse me @TanyaBurr but I am OBSESSED with your pink illuminating powder,” alongside a gif of Cosby playing with makeup.
A number of fans responded to Zoella to point out who the person in the gif was, and to express their concern over her sharing it.
Zoella claimed she didn’t know who Bill Cosby was, or the allegations made against him.
She swiftly deleted the tweet and wrote: “Thanks for letting me know about that GIF guys, I wasn’t aware of him. Maybe twitter should remove that from the “makeup” drop down…”
Bill Cosby is currently facing multiple allegations of sexual assault. Over 50 separate accusations have been made against him. He is due to appear in court in November this year following a previous trial resulting in a mistrial due to jurors reaching a deadlock over the verdict.
Zoella’s Twitter gaffe comes just days after another social media mishap
On July 30th, she made another gaffe online – although this one was more funny than problematic – in an ASOS haul video she wore a t-shirt with the slogan “I can’t come out tonight, I’m busy” emblazoned on it. It should have been an innocuously adorable fashion moment for her, but thanks to an unfortunate camera angle, the t-shirt became far more untoward – and inadvertently hilarious – than intended. Check out what the shirt appeared to say here.
