If you weren’t on Twitter or watching TV last night, we can only assume you were in a cave somewhere trying to reinvent fire because why the hell would you miss Dan Howell on BBC?! With that said, we learnt some pretty important things last night from his massively informative documentary, Super Gamers; a look into the professional and competitive world of e-sport gamers and the life they lead in order to make it to the top!
- Dan is no longer a smol bean, but a giant amongst peasants.
We all knew Dan was pretty damn tall. So tall in fact that we based an entire quiz around this matter. But on Super Gamers, Dan seemed to soar way above everybody else on the entire northern hemisphere so much so that he looked like a beautiful bumbling beast in a human suit. It was 90% adorable and 10% just plain terrifying that he was so shockingly tall! What long lovely legs for a man who sits in front a camera all day everyday.
- LET’S PLOUGH THE CHICKENS
NEW MEME ALERT. Now for some context… During the documentary, Dan attended a gaming convention and got his hands on some popular video game titles. One of which was Farming Simulator. Yup, you read that correctly. Farming Simulator. Dan Howell loved this game so much that he decided to unleash some of his most internalised desires, one of which being the need to plough some nearby chickens. Within seconds Twitter had exploded with chicken quotes, but it finally became official when Bae #2 posted this beautiful tweet. And there you have it, a new meme is born.
- Everybody wants to play Hearthstone
Who’d of thought that a TV show all about games and gamers would reveal such a decent amount of video games! From Guild Wars 2, to League of Legends and finally to the newest game that we predict is going to soar up the App Store charts – Hearthstone. Made by the good folks at Blizzard who were the evil geniuses behind World of Warcraft and Starcraft, this totally free game is an intelligent mix between “poker and Pokemon” and it seemed like everyone on Twitter was on their way to download it. We’ve recently weaned ourselves off the highly addictive game, but maybe we’ll have to have a cheeky game or two now there’s a chance we could pair up with Dan…
- Dan owns only one set of clothes
We’re not exaggerating. Throughout the entirety of the show, Mr Howell rocked one look and one look only – black skinny jeans, a black t-shirt and a black jacket. That’s it. Sure you can speculate that he may have changed the tee or put on a new pair of jeans, but THEY MUST HAVE BEEN IDENTICAL. It become the talking point of the entire show, with dozens of tweets dedicated to trying to figure out if this phenomenon was happening for anyone else. Also, whenever we weren’t obsessing over his fashion, we were all screaming over that one magical flash of his underwear when he sat by a river. What a rollercoaster.
- The world of professional gaming is as crazy and confusing as it sounds
Away from Dan and his superb hosting skills, the documentary actually revealed a hell of a lot about the secret and often misunderstood world of professional gaming. By flying all over Europe and meeting gamers who were working tirelessly to perfect their game, we got a glimpse into a side of gaming that is basically unheard of for those people who just enjoy making recreations of themselves on The Sims. From living in ‘gaming houses’ to making up to ‘£50k a year’, we cannot undermine the careers of those people who say they’re a professional gamer – in fact we need to give them a massive hug and support them emotionally. It’s a dog eat dog world out there!
- Dan’s sad dimples look even better on TV
Strangely enough, wherever Dan’s face goes, his sad dimples always follow! We got a good look at them for an hour last night in all their sad glory and let me tell you this for a solid fact; they were freaking beautiful.
- You can get OTT competitive over games you’ve never played before
Before last night, we knew a little bit about people who played in gaming tournaments professionally, but we couldn’t name you one for all the money in the world. However, after watching a couple of these individuals for mere minutes in the show, we were screaming at our TV’s and cheering on their victories! A bunch of them were all active on Twitter last night as well, so if you’ve discovered a new icon, then get back over to the #SuperGamers trend and get following.
- Wow such walk much pace very exercise
Oh dear. Another meme appears. For a man who has confessed to never exercising and has racked up thousands of HOURS playing video games, Dan sure did a lot of walking in the documentary! From right to left, left to right and sometimes towards the camera, Dan strutted his stuff for an entire hour and wow did the Internet take notice. The memes were immediate and the jokes were near constant. In fact, after Super Gamers was over, we struggled to remember what the main point of the show was other than to show off what a good walker Dan Howell is. We’re still struggling.
There was no cat face, no ladders and no Phil – so what was left of Danisnotonfire?! Well, apparently, when you put Dan on TV without his usual goofiness, you get #srsbusinessdan. Please, people of the Internet, never let this trend die. It’s a gem and we love you all.
