2018 has already been an incredible year for videos

2018 has been a great year for videos so far. Here's a roundup of some of the best clips from YouTube from the grand old year of two thousand and eighteen:

1. 'Cantina theme' played in pencil

Watch as this YouTuber manages to play the famous 'cantina theme' from Star Wars by writing numbers down with a pencil. Seriously, that's all there is to it - and it actually works?! We don't even want to know how long it took Dani Ochoa to work out the correct numbers and symbols required to make this tune come to life, but goddamn if we aren't impressed:

2. Miranda Sings 'New Rules' cover

The only thing better than an iconic song is a cover by an iconic singer. Luckily, Miranda was on hand to help us out with this utterly pitch-perfect rendition of Dua Lipa's instruction manual for avoiding ex-boyfriends. Sing along everyone:

3. Troye Sivan - 'My My My'

YouTube's first boi of music, Troye Sivan, lit up the internet with this instantly catchy hit - and equally awesome video. If you want to see Troye trotting about in a warehouse with very dodgy electrics, then this is the video for you:

4. Kylie Jenner baby reveal video

Like 'em or loathe 'em, it is very difficult to escape the Kardashians. I once spent four months on the uninhabited Tetepare Island in the South Pacific and two weeks into my stay a courier sent by the Kardashians arrived on a jetski and shoved a polaroid of a Kendall selfie in front of my face, yelling "LOOOOOK AT IT!!!! LOOOOOK AAAAAAAT IIIIIIIIIIIITT!"

Anyway, regardless of your stance on this famous-for-being-famous clan, there is something to be said for being able to amass 36 million YouTube views in just two days - and that's precisely what young Kylie did with her baby reveal video:

5. I read a letter from my younger self

A hilarious and sweet video from a YouTube veteran. Phil Lester breaks out a lil missive he wrote as a younger man and gives it a good old read. If you're a Phan, you've already seen this video, if you're not a Phan you're probably thinking "what the hell is a 'Phan'?" Either way, this is one of the most influential YouTubers on the platform, so point your eyes at him and click play:

6. Justin Timberlake - 'Filthy'

Justin Timberlake revolutionised music videos, and more specifically music video budgets, in this CGI-heavy robot fest. Justin launched his album 'Man Of The Woods' with a music video about a super-advanced robot that is good at dancing. Don't know what kind of woods he grew up in but hey, who cares? It's a goddamn bop and the video is a marvel. Also, life is fleeting and ultimately meaningless, so watch the fun colours and shapes before you become dust:

7. Top Dan memes of 2017

What better way to kick off the year than by looking back at some of the highlights of last year?

Stop answering that clearly rhetorical question and turn your attention to this video from meme master Daniel Howell. If you enjoy a man who can laugh at himself, then you'll love Dan - it's like his whole deal.

8. Nathan Zed - 'Succeed by 25... OR FAIL FOREVER?'

Among the many peculiarities of 2018 is the fact that Nathan Zed has inexplicably started posting regularly?! Yep, we couldn't believe it either, but Nathan is really on a tear this year - and not only are the videos frequent, they also live up to his usual high standards.
