We the Unicorns

The ship may be over, but the memories will never fade.

Sometimes things don't last forever. It's an honest fact of life that by now, we should all be miserably used to. Take for example Marcus and Niomi, who split late last year - they were one of the most adored and respected YouTube couples in the biz, but then it all came crashing down in a ball of flames and tears. But in the past month, we've seen even more hart-break another YouTube couple has fallen out of love, it's of course Hangrid.

Even though Hannah Hart and Ingrid Nilsen had only been 'publicly' dating since September 2015, they quickly became a relationship set to define love in the 21st Century. And now, to celebrate their friendship and the lasting impression they have left on their fans, we've rounded up every single reason why, even though Hangrid is no more, their influence and impact will never burn out.

They were one of the most visible lesbian couples on YouTube.

We obviously cannot deny that other LGBT+ couples exist on YouTube, because they do in their THOUSANDS - but Hangrid were easily the most visible. With a combined subscriber count of nearly 6.5 million YouTube fans, their collabs, Insta's and Snap-stories were seen by millions of people 24/7. That's a degree of representation you'll never get in any other medium.

Both separately and together, they were a highly professional working couple.

With Hannah's 'Have A Hart Day' events and Ingrid's work with the UN (plus her interview with Obama!), these two are somee of the most unstoppable do-gooders on the Internet. Even when they were in the throws of their relationship, business never stopped to make way for love. They proved that relationships must work WITH your own personal life, and not against it.

Just face it, Hannah and Ingrid were incredibly aesthetically pleasing.

Honestly, they are both two very beautiful, unique ladies. As women comfortable in their own skin, styles and situations, Hannah and Ingrid never appeared to physically change for their relationship, choosing instead to allow their significant other to embrace their true selves. Another important life lesson when it comes to relationship; just be you.

After Ingrid's iconic coming out video, she found her fairytale love story.

Not even a year ago, Ingrid posted one of the most viewed 'coming out' videos on YouTube. In previous years, she had referred to Hannah Hart as one of her YouTube crushes, but now that her sexual orientation was out in the world it appears that her dreams came true. Ingrid's a true indictor to never give up on your dreams.

Even before they announced their relationship, fans genuinely rooted for them.

The Tumblr tag #Hangrid started rolling around before their relationship announcement came to be canon. Particularly following their unforgetable Gays of Thrones video on Hannah's channel (which coincidently is Hannah's longest My Drunk Kitchen too!), the Internet was alive with gifs demonstrating flirtatious glances and skin-tingling body language. It was literally like watching our own dreams come true, and whilst we may have woken up from the dream now, back in September 2015 Hannah and Ingrid could not have looked any happier or felt anymore comfortable with each other.

Hangrid's split was mutually respected by both parties, and a sign of maturity we all need to follow.

Both Hannah and Ingrid uploaded their 'split' tweet at the exact moment approximately two months after the real breakup. But what shone through all the tears and screaming we did was the fact that they still spoke very highly of each other, saying that it was a mutual decision and that they still loved each other dearly. With the Internet being such a toxic place for public breakups, we feel that Hangrid handled it perfectly and professionally, thus making it a lesson for every single person on this planet not be a d****e when you end a relationship.

Hannah and Ingrid are still BFF's, and even business partners with DYSH.

This point is particularly poignant, as the two split up amicably - not something we often say when two public figures end their relationship. But, even though the relationship has been putting on hold, the friendship hasn't been extinguished with the two venturing into the business world with the food app DYSH with friends Mamrie Hart and Grace Helbig SINCE the split. They prove that even if you aren't in romantic love, you can still be BFF's.

As a couple, they were intellectual equals.

So often in stereotypical, tv-and-movie-based relationships there's always 'a funny one and a serious one', or 'a smart one and a stylish one', or some other stupid combination. But Hangrid stood as couple with two incredibly feisty, passionate and intellectual young women who both desperately wanted to help the world. Either for poverty or gender identity, Hannah and Ingrid were sure to have had the best pillow talk in the world.

Hannah and Ingrid both promoted positive things for the LGBT+ community.

Hannah, as a loud and proud lesbian, and Ingrid, as a publicly positive ambassador for self-expression and coming out truthfully, both acted as superb role models for young men and women growing up in 2016. Ingrid went so far to grill President Obama about the awful Tampon Tax taking place in America and encouraged young ladies to learn more and be more active about the health of their vagina - further proof their relationship wasn't just about Netflix and Chilling.

People were shipping them two years before Hangrid became official.

Nearly two years before their relationship started (and way before Ingrid's coming out), the two worked together on the Holy Trinity's first feature length movie, Camp Takota. Ingrid had previously mentioned that Hannah was one of her YouTube idols, so it must have been incredible to work together on the movie, but it was here that the shipping began. Their friendship was written in the stars.

Hannah was one of the first YouTubers to support Ingrid when she came out.

On practically all her social media channels, Hannah was one of the happiest and first people on the Internet to congratulate Ingrid on her sexual awakening. Couple or not, Hannah and Ingrid supported each others decisions and praised each of their battles and accomplishments. Honestly, you try and name us one negative thing that ever came out of this relationship?!

No matter what, we'll forever be listening to 'Electric Love' by BŘRNS.

Widely considered by Hangrid-shippers as their song, we'll never forget how this jam once made us feel. Their love will last forever.
