PlayerUnknown's Battleground's has swept through the world of YouTube gaming, hyping up everyone in its path - but what is it, actually?
Move over Minecraft, there's a brand new gaming phenomenon on YouTube. Many games have come and tried to snatch the crown that Minecraft has held for the last ... hundred? ... years on YouTube. Honestly we struggle to remember a time before Minecraft videos.
What is this game?
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is a multiplayer survival game which drops a group of players into a confined area and asks them - politely - to murder each other into oblivion. It's a little like the hunger games, but with less teen angst and more people being beaten to death with frying pans.
Once you're dead, you're dead - at least until the next round. The rounds have a fixed time limit and the play area gets smaller and smaller as the game goes on, forcing players closer and closer to each other (if you go outside the bounds you die instantly). This prevents players from simply hiding from danger and ensures the game always has a nail-biting ending.
Jack took on the challenge
As did Felix
Who even managed to win!
And like a billion others
The random nature of the game combined with it's multiplayer mechanics mean that it is the perfect game for online streaming. No two games will be alike, and you're always guaranteed a climactic finish to a round. You can play it yourself by grabbing it for PC. Or if you're a console player you will be able to play it on Xbox One, starting this autumn. Oh and if you were wondering what the 'PlayerUnknown' part was all about - that's the name of the game's creator (his nickname).
