It's fair to say we didn't see that coming

Alfie Deyes, in a recent interview, has revealed how he plans to raise his kids - and it's fair to say it's not how you would expect. Talking to The Sunday Times Magazine, Alfie reminisced about his own childhood, saying that he and his sister Poppy were "always outside" and "never on the computer". He laments that that life is a far cry from the modern day, when he sees "four year olds with iPads, which is crazy."

It is at this point that he states: "when I have kids I won't let them near technology. I want them to have wooden toys, not tablets." This is certainly surprising to hear from someone has built a media empire on the back of videos he made in his bedroom out of boredom on a rainy day, using the family video camera.

For someone who has amassed millions of followers on every major social network to reject tech in such a way is an interesting insight into how online success, although amazing in many ways - is not everything. Sometimes you just want to play with a wooden train, you know?

What do you think of Alfie's comments? Would you raise your kids in the same way, or will you be buying them every Zune, pager and LaserDisc under the sun? Let us know in the comments below, or on our Facebook page.
