We the Unicorns

By Charleyy Hodson

This joke clearly crossed a line.

Earlier on today, we covered the ongoing story of PewDiePie "joining ISIS" with fellow YouTuber JackSepticEye. Whilst fans seemed divided over whether the joke was controversial or just innocent humour, it seems that the people running Twitter thought otherwise - as his account has now been suspended.

Originally, there were questions whether Felix had lost his Twitter verification due to jokes with the company or simply his own doing, but now it seems that his unverification was just the first course of action against his profile. At the time of writing, "PewDiePie" is the top trend on Twitter, sparking a huge debate about what can be joked about in 2016.

UPDATE 1: Felix has uploaded a video to YouTube explaining why he had his Twitter blue tick removed, citing his ISIS joke with JackSepticEye. He gives a brief rundown how the verification system works, in addition to explaining why he unverified himself.

UPDATE 2: After the trend #SavePewDiePie started gaining traction, it seems as though PewDiePie now has his Twitter profile back, without the blue tick of course. Some fans noticed a few differences, with certain people seeing him have only 70 followers and others saying he still had his original 8.22 million followers - but now he was only following Donald Trump.

UPDATE 3: Now that Felix has his Twitter profile back under control, he has since released two tweets that are 100% copies of original Marina Joyce tweets from back in July during that controversy. After having his Twitter profile briefly suspended, we can't imagine this sort of behaviour will keep him in Twitter's good books.

We'll be updating this story as it develops, and getting as much information from social media after PewDiePie's Twitter account being suspended.
