"My comedy is not based on my weight"

Christine Sydelko has revealed that she wasn't aware that her size was being played for laughs in Katy Perry's new music video until after it was released.

While the reception to Katy's Swish Swish video has been largely positive, many fans criticised how Christine Sydelko, who was nicknamed "Shaquille O'Meals" in the video and can be seen eating everything from tacos to entire basketballs, was portrayed in the video.

After the criticism began to pour in, Christine Sydelko revealed that she didn't know her weight was going to be made fun of.

In a video shared to YouTube on 25th August, she explains: "I had no idea what I was getting into, the only information I had before I showed up on set was that it was a basketball team, and I was on Katy's basketball team."

Christine accepted why people could be offended by the video, but insisted she wasn't.

"Everyone on Twitter is saying [the video] was one big fat joke at my expense, and I get that," Christine said. "I didn't know they were going to call me Shaquille O'Meals."

She added: "I see where it would be offensive, but me personally, I am not offended. I can see if someone else was in this position, they would feel bad."

Christine did, however, complain that the video misrepresented her style of humour. She said, "My comedy is not based on my weight... that's the only reason I'll be mad about this - because it perpetuates this stereotype that I make fun of my own weight, which I don't."
