Can we even call her a YouTuber anymore?!
Earlier on in the year we spotlighted Franchesca Ramsey as a YouTuber to watch in 2016 as she was set to explode in popularity and take the world by storm - and boy did she! On the 2nd of February Fran made her first regular appearance on The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore as a writer and contributor.
Her online persona is famous for calling out problematic representations of race and behaviour in the modern world, which she translated perfectly to her new gig with an eye-opening and side-splitting bit about replacing the world 'coloured' in the NAACP to "something else, like 'cool'". Watch her segment in the clip show below!
The whole team at Comedy Central were stoked to have her join the team, with her new TV partner Larry Wilmore having this to say, “We’re very excited to have Franchesca and her tremendous skill set join the show. We were just going to hire her skill set, but we agreed to hire her as well. So it’s a win-win.”
This new job is other another notch on Franchesca's TV resume with past TV comedy experience on both Broad City and Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell, so she's certainly no stranger to the TV comedy world. However, if you've got this far silently cheering on Franchesca without actually knowing who she is, you may recognise her name from one of the most popular viral videos of 2012, 'Shit White Girls Say... To Black Girls'.
Franchesca is still currently the host of MTV's Decoded series on YouTube, a weekly series that tackles "race, pop culture, and other uncomfortable things". So with 2016 kicking off with a brand new TV show, we'd say that our bet on Franchesca taking over the world in 2016 was a damn good call.
