As long as it measures my weekly usage in hours not days I'll be happy
Following hot on the heels of other apps like Instagram, YouTube has introduced a new feature that allows users to precisely track how much time they're spending on the YouTube mobile app.
In an official blog post on the subject, the YouTube team say the new functionality is designed "to provide a better understanding of time spent on YouTube, so you can make informed decisions about how you want YouTube to best fit into your life".
And they've rolled out some new features to go with it
YouTube has introduced a handful of new features match this new spirit of healthy app use.
These include the option of having all of your YouTube notifications delivered to you in one big package, once a day, like a big subscription newsletter, and the option to set reminders to 'take a break' (basically the app will pop up, metaphorically shake you by the shoulders and be like 'dude, go to sleep it's 5am, you don't need to watch Gangnam Style again wtf').
So how do you see how much time you're spending on YouTube?
The process could not be simpler, my friend.
Simply trot along to your account menu and all your info is there. Here's the magical journey you'll take: sign into YouTube > tap your Account icon > tap 'Time watched' > the end. Wow, what an adventure. How many hundreds of hours have you clocked on the YouTube app? Let us know in our Facebook comments or tweet us @wetheunicorns.
