When we heard Lily Melrose was bringing out a book all about vlogging and blogging, we smiled to ourselves. Standing out from the typical lifestyle guides and novels, Lily announced her plans to share her top tricks and tips that have seen her become a veteran blogger. We expected lighting and photography tips, guides on how to build up your brand and promote yourself online and how to make money from YouTube, all from someone who has been there, done that and got the subscribers to prove it.

But when we caught up with Lily at Summer In The City, she dramatically revealed she'll no longer be releasing her book which was expected to hit shelves next month.

"I was meant to be releasing a book but I decided to pull it because it just felt like it wasn't something I didn't have enough control over. It wasn't "me" anymore and I wanted something that felt authentic and real."

"Walking away from it was really hard but it was something that I was losing control of and I wanted to have my stamp and my taste on it."

So what does Lily think about the scores of YouTubers releasing books and products this year?

"I think it's great that people have the opportunity to release books and material outside of the traditional YouTube format but I also think you somehow have to retain some of the authenticity and the real person behind it."

All the hard work in the last few months hasn't gone to waste, Lily told us she'll be releasing some of the chapters on her blog which readers can access for free. Having recently moved to Brighton, Lily plans to take things back to basics with her career: "There'll be a lot of home decor stuff on my channel over the next couple of months and I also want to do lots of DIY stuff. I feel like having outside projects from my channel took away the time I had to make content that I really loved and that's where I want to go back to. I want to make awesome stuff I'm really proud of and that my viewers are proud of."

We think the fact Lily had the balls to put her neck on the line is amazing and we hope more YouTubers will keep integrity at the heart of any future deals.

Congratulations on being fearless, Lily!
