"Mommy vlogger" Monalisa Perez has been charged with second-degree manslaughter, after shooting her boyfriend in the chest.
A US vlogger is currently facing jail time after fatally shooting her boyfriend in a "stunt gone wrong". Monalisa Perez, a self-described "family vlogger", was charged this week with second-degree manslaughter after her boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz, convinced her to shoot a book he was holding to his chest.
Ruiz died from a gunshot wound when the book failed to stop the bullet.
Ms Perez, who is pregnant, reportedly told the authorities that the stunt had been Pedro's idea, in an attempt to create a viral video. Until this week, her channel was updated frequently with videos of the couple and their 3 year-old daughter pranking each other; and it currently has just under 4,000 subscribers. Their daughter was present at the time of the shooting.
Monalisa tweeted about the stunt before reportedly running screaming from the house when it backfired; but at the time of writing, this is the last thing she has posted online.
Monalisa Perez could face up to ten years in prison.
Since the charge is second-degree manslaughter, the maximum sentence she could face if convicted is ten years, with a $20,000 fine.
