It's about time!

Since the app first came onto the scene in July 2016, Pokémon Go fans have been crying out for the augmented-reality mobile game to introduce one of the best features from the original games console versions - trading.

Now, it looks like trading is finally coming to Pokémon Go, as well as a host of other cool social features.

Announcing the news in a blog post, Pokémon Go announced that Trading will roll-out this week. But it won't be as simple as just sending a shiny Magikarp out into the ether and waiting for a Ho-Oh to find its way to you in return. Oh no - they're making us work for our trades. But before we get into the mechanics of trading, you'll need to get familiar with Pokémon Go's new social "Friends" feature.

How to add a friend on Pokémon Go

Once your app has received the update, you'll be able to add a friend in Pokémon Go by asking them to share their trainer code with you. And if you want to invite a trainer to be your friend, you simply enter their trainer code to send a request.

Being friends enables a suite of special new features, including "Gifts." Now, when you spin a PokéStop you'll be able to choose between receiving usual items or a special "Gift." Now, you can't open these Gifts yourself, but when you send them to a friend they'll receive a number of useful and often exclusive items, including eggs that hatch Alolan forms of Kanto Pokémon. Sending gifts increases your Friendship level, as does competing in raids of Gym battles together.

Friends are crucial to trading in Pokémon Go.

How to trade in Pokémon Go

Trades will be powered by Stardust, the stuff you currently use to increase your Pokémon's CP, and you'll also have to be physically close to the friend you want to trade with. If your trainer level is 10 or higher, you'll be able to trade with your friend and receive bonus Candy for the Pokémon you just gave away.

But before you begin hatching a plan to receive 10 legendary Pokémon through trades in one day, be mindful that Legendary and shiny Pokémon can only be traded once per day with a Great or Best Friend.
