Stefan Karl's cancer has intensified, and now he is looking to the online meme community that he has embraced to help him raise funds

Stefan Karl, the beloved Icelandic actor who is best known for his LazyTown character 'Robbie Rotten', is unfortunately not in a good way. Stefan was diagnosed with cancer last year, and despite early signs of recuperation, it seems that his situation has now worsened. The actor became the focus of one of 2016's biggest memes after a song he performed on LazyTown captured the internet's imagination:

And Stefan loved it

Brilliantly, Stefan completely embraced the trend - and even gathered the original actors from the number back together and performed the tune again on a live stream:

The meme then became a force for good

The meme unexpectedly became a force for good (something that has never happened and will never happen again to a meme) after Stefan's diagnosis, resulting in an outpouring of love and support from fans and well-wishers. The publicity has also helped raise awareness about pancreatic cancer.

Though fundraising efforts were a huge success, Stefan's situation has unfortunately worsened.

But now things have worsened

A representative for Stefan told us the following:

"After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, going through surgery & chemo treatments, and being out of work for up to a year, this week Robbie Rotten went to the doctor in hopes of a final check-up, but instead his doctors found two tumors that metastasized and will need to be surgically removed – setting the kid-loving clown back even further."

But the good news is that fans have once again rallied around the hilarious actors, setting up a GoFundMe, which has already raised over $121,000 in support Robbie Rotten. The GoFundMe is still active and go can donate right now, by heading to this link:

Get well soon, Stefan. You are number one.
