BRB, discovering my new makeup idol.
There's a significant portion of our website dedicated purely to beautiful, fashionable people who serve as the epitome of FIERCE. Well move over Louise Pentland, Zoella, Estee LaLonde and Manny MUA, there's new makeup guru on the scene and her newest Power of Makeup collab was so freaking inspiring we couldn't look away - it's Shalom Nchom!
Shalom, who suffered terrible burns at the age of 9, has gone her entire life struggling with the bullying and anxiety that comes with having something unique about her looks. However, now a 20-year-old makeup artist living in Maryland, Shalom Nchom is ready to show that "makeup is not the reason why I'm happy. I'm happy because I love myself". To feel some serious inspiration, watch her viral Power of Makeup video below.
Currently a massive trend on YouTube at the moment, the Power of Makeup tutorials feature people of all races and genders painting only half their face with makeup. This demonstrates not only the difference it has on their overall appearance, but to show off a stance that makeup does not define them; they are beautiful both with and without makeup. Since the trend sparked up a few months ago, even daily makeup users like Yours Truly has found themselves feeling totally different about the skin they're in.
Shalom Nchom is particularly empowering as her struggle takes place on a far more unique battlefield. Be it acne or scars, makeup gurus on YouTube seem to be getting far more recognition from those people feeling anxious about their appearance, and the rise of Shalom on our radar reminds us that we "should love [ourselves] either way, makeup or no makeup", and we cannot love her more for her inspiring video. We're officially subscribed and anticipating her next tutorial!
