Fans were confused when they noticed his Twitter account had vanished

Tributes have poured in on social media after it became apparent that Robbie Rotten actor Stefán Karl had deleted all of his public social media accounts. With the actor's recent announcement that his cancer has become 'inoperable', this moves points to the actor wanting to step back from public life, as his battle with the disease gets harder.

The only social media account that is still live is his Instagram, but he hasn't posted there since June 2017, so it seems likely that that's still online simply because it's not a focus for him.

An admin of the 'Lazy Town Memes' page claims to have spoken to Stefán, who said that he is focusing on spending his final days with his family. They also shared a heartfelt message Stefán has left for his fans:

Fellow LazyTown actor Julianna Rose Mauriello paid tribute to him

She played the character Stephanie on the hugely popular family show.

Stefán Karl Stefánsson is a fantastic person to be around. We experienced so much fun working Long hours. Those were the memories of Us playing around the Studio. Well, those were some outstanding times. (Robbie Rotten) @stefanssonkarl Stefán Karl Stefánsson I just completely fell in love with him. He has been battling with cancer for a while now. Well, it got much worse! It is so hard for us to be losing someone we love.
