Words Are Dead. Long Live Emojis!
In this day and age it's ridiculous that a human being is expected to type actual words into YouTube to find a video - it's just too much effort. Well thankfully a solution has come along, in the form of a new website that lets you search everybody's favourite video site using only sweet, sweet emojis. We had a play around with it, to see how well it works:
How Does It Work?
The site provides a large selection of emojis (some specially made) and all you have to do is click on the emojis you want and they will be entered into the search bar.
The site then gives you a list of video based on those emojis. The emojis that are represented in each video are shown next to the results:
How Well Does It Work?
We tested out the site by searching for someone that we thought would be pretty easy to find: PewDiePie. Young Felix is the biggest YouTuber of all time, so it shouldn't be too hard to find one of his videos ... right?
We tried to search using 'die' and 'pie' but for some reason there was no pie emoji (which is an outrage), so we ended up searching for 'death shortcake':
The results were what you might describe as garbage trash:
We decided to switch things up and get more specific. After an intensive fourteen hour brainstorming session, we nailed down the emojis that summed up Pewdz:
Surely now our results would yield some sweet, sweet PewDiePie? Well, no:
We don't know that fella in numbers 1-3 is, but he seems very angry indeed.
It seems pretty clear that the site is still a work in progress, but hey, it's still fun to use! Have a go for yourself and see if you can do better than us. If you actually manage to find a PewDiePie video, let us know! Click here to try out the site.
