He's had global success as a YouTube sensation and chart climbing musician; but we'll always fondly remember Troye Sivan's roots as an actor. So the news of his next big project, "Boy Erased", has got the internet feeling pretty shook.
Troye has been cast in a movie adaption of coming out drama, "Boy Erased".
Based on the memoir written by Garrard Conley, the film will tell the story of a teenage boy being outed to his family; who then has to decide between being disowned, or facing gay conversion therapy. While Troye's actual role is yet to be announced, he is joining a stellar cast; Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe have also been cast, with "Manchester By the Sea" star Lucas Hedges playing the role of Garrard.
Troye broke the news to his audience when the Wrap revealed the casting.
"This movie is so important and I'm honoured to be a part of it," admitted Troye to his Twitter following.
UM I guess cats outta the bag!!!! Guys I'm so shook at this This movie is gonna be so important and I'm honoured to be a part of it pic.twitter.com/nPrJBOsu3o— troye sivan (@troyesivan) August 30, 2017
As an openly gay singer, Troye has been a vocal and active advocate for LGBTQ+ equality; most notably recently releasing his video for coming-out anthem "Heaven" on the same day as Donald Trump's inauguration. So it's no wonder that he leapt at the chance to help tell the story of someone who has faced the ongoing and divisive experience of conversion therapy.
"Boy Erased" is being directed by Joel Edgerton and is slated for a 2018 release; and we can't wait to see what Troye brings to whatever role he is cast in.
