The competition was HOT for this.
By now, you should be no stranger to the idea of YouTubers winning awards and generally owning the game. A whole plethora of them have been nominated for awards in 2016 alone from the People's Choice Awards to the Shorty's, but Tyler Oakley just grabbed the best accolade of them all... Most Eligible Bachelor!
The competition, hosted by Out Magazine, has been running for nearly a month now but it wasn't until last night that Tyler noticed he was in a less than satisfactory 7th place, which needed to be fixed immediately. Tweeting out to his 5 million Twitter followers that the voting was going to close in an hour, the damn near impossible happened right before our very eyes...
In the space of only an hour, Tyler climbed up to the top spot to win the award for Most Eligible Bachelor "after thousands of last-minute votes" (ours included!). His fans managed to raise his ranking by nearly 20%, beating last year's winner and original front-runner Adam Lambert to the title by only 5%. Other top 10 bachelors include Clay Aiken, Frankie Grande and Johnny Weir, so there was some very tough competition for the YouTube vlogger.
Tyler's fast and downright hilarious rise to the top is just another sign of how powerful digital influencers are becoming in a world dominated by social media and 24/7 news broadcasting. Whilst we're stoked to see our Queen Tyler Oakley take home gold, and we were honoured to be a part of the final push, we wanted to see more YouTube personalities up in that final 10. Korey Kuhl, Shane Dawson and Joey Graceffa were also put for the trophy but didn't get the social media backing that Tyler was able to pull out.
