You'll be able to try on make-up with some of your favourite creators using the new feature from later this summer.

YouTube has announced it’s set to make some of its beauty content more interactive than ever with the introduction of a new augmented reality feature which will let you try on make-up virtually during tutorials by some of your favourite creators.

According to a blog post, the new feature will be called ‘AR Beauty Try-On’ and will let you virtually try on make-up while watching videos by YouTubers in order to get beauty tips, product reviews and more. “Thanks to machine learning and AR technology, it offers realistic, virtual product samples that work on a full range of skin tones,” the post adds.

According to a GIF posted along with the announcement, it looks like viewers would be able to watch videos of creators applying make-up and then follow along themselves via a video feed from their own front-facing camera, where they would be able to try on a variety of make-up samples.

Though the feature is still in development, YouTube has said it’s set to launch later this summer. They’ve also added that when they tested out the experience with beauty brands earlier this year they found that 30% of viewers used the AR experience in the YouTube iOS app with each person spending 80 seconds on average trying on lipstick virtually.

It looks like the new feature will double both as a fun interactive tool and as a tool for brands and creators to make revenue and enhance their content, but whether the feature will end up being a huge part of how beauty creators make their videos or not, it looks like we’ll have to wait a few more months to find out.
