No catch, just watch

YouTube has begun rolling out a selection of Hollywood films that are available to watch for free for all users. The only catch is that the movies have adverts stuck in them, like normal YouTube videos.

This represents a more modern and lax approach to video streaming and honestly makes a lot of sense. With people getting more and more used to being able to watch films on-demand in an instant - be it legally or otherwise - it's wise of YouTube to embrace speed over immediate profit.

This might also help YouTube get around the fact that half of these movies have already been uploaded to YouTube for free anyway.

What films are available?

There are over 100 films but most are quite obscure. However the standout titles are Legally Blonde, Legally Blonde 2, The Terminator and Rocky. In typical YouTube fashion there was no real fanfare about the appearance of these films, they were just suddenly there.

You may not have access to the films yet, as YouTube is rolling out the feature in their usual gradual style. You can see the selection of movies and television shows that YouTube has available in their dedicated section right here.
